Compositions

When looking for a chamber piece for percussion and wind instruments, I wasn't sure what I wanted to play. Then, Kyle stepped in and offered to compose a piece for me! It turned out beautifully, and Mary Hannig and Daniel Eng were wonderful to work with. Please enjoy "Amethyst Falls"!
Hubris composed by Kyle Hughes performed by the Steel Drum Ensemble picture by Sheridan Hughes This is my newest piece for steel drum ensemble. One of the biggest things I felt as 2018 drew to a close was that my ego was becoming a bit much.
Grey Snow on the Mountain Veranda by Kyle Hughes performed by Kyle Hughes I've been playing hammered dulcimer for about four years now, so I thought it was time I actually write my first hammered dulcimer solo. I based this piece off of an improvisation I randomly recorded on my phone two years ago.
Lament for the Water Queen by Kyle Hughes performed by the Lamont Steel Drum Ensemble featuring Daniel Eng, solo bass flute I had a lot of fun writing this piece, and, in fact, it's the fastest I've ever been able to write a piece so far.
Alone for Solo Harp composed and performed by Kyle Hughes Program Notes: The night brings with it a contradiction: a divergence in the darkness. Some face the black midnight huddling with the ones they love, while others are isolated in the cool moonlight. In this eternal world of night those feelings grow stronger.
The Temple of Bastet by Kyle Hughes recorded by: Kyle Hughes, handpan Daniel Eng, alto flute Kyle Przybylski, Bb clarinet Ben Yats, percussion This is the studio recording of my newest piece, which was premiered on the "Steel Sanctuary" recital on November 3rd, 2018.

I started seriously composing my junior year of college. My compositions range from pieces for steel drum ensembles and chamber percussion music to solo instrumental works. You can see my favorite recent compositions above.
